Martin Limited Edition D-28M Elvis Presley Acoustic Guitar

!±8± Martin Limited Edition D-28M Elvis Presley Acoustic Guitar

This guitar has been produced by Martin as a special limited edition of just 175 guitars. It's designed to closely mimic and resemble Elvis Presley's famous 1955 D-28 including being fitted with a leather covering just as Elvis had to protect his own guitar at the time.

This unique cover was made by Charles Underwood for Elvis' guitar and made it instantly recognizable thanks to the guitars appearance in so many TV shows and concert photos. The case which comes with the D-28M is an oversized Geib style hardshell designed to fit the guitar and its cover perfectly.

The woods used in the building of this guitar are quite special. It features a very rare Madagascar rosewood back and side which is said to very closely resemble Brazilian rosewood. Of course due to the destruction of rainforest in Brazil and the governments attempts to stem the flow of this destruction, Brazilian rosewood although being wonderful for guitars is no longer on order.

The details of this guitar, as you might expect given its price tag and heritage, are quite impressive and it's obvious that Martin have taken the production of this guitar very seriously. It's made with a lot of love and aside from all the Elvis motifs and special touches the sound is quite amazing and powerful.

A number of classic features from Martin acoustic guitars of the 1950's have been preserved such as a 1-11/16' neck and Grover nickel tuners with the small oval buttons. The Martin logo on the headstock has also been taken from the old style decal of the 1950's.

Those interested in knowing about our instruments we are using here - I'm playing a 1948 Martin D-28 and Alton is doing rhythm on a 1949 Martin D-18.

!±8± Martin D-18 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

If ever there was a classic acoustic guitar then its got to be the Martin D-18. Boasting a mahogany back and sides, this guitar is famous for it's projection and it's ability to really cut through mixes when recording. A real sign of quality.

The model is a traditional dreadnought in shape and comes with a fretboard made of rosewood the same as the bridge. The tuning machine heads are perfectly smooth and will give you dependable tuning and stability, they are chrome enclosed.

Due to the large size of the guitar along with the quality of it's wood and construction, it produces a loud and warm tone with moderate bass and a clear treble. Naturally each guitar will still vary so you should use your own ears as the final judge and jury. Generally speaking however, the character of the D-18 and the quality of sound you can expect from it is excellent quite uniform.

Next up in the line of Martins is the HD28 and we'll be looking at this guitar in another article review. The D-18 compares very well to it's more expensive cousin and unless you are a guitar connoisseur or an expert player you will probably get the most value for money out of a D-18. Not only is it a wonderful guitar to record with but some reviewers comment that the neck on the D-18 is actually easier to play.

Generally described as a great acoustic guitar for blues, finger style, country or folk, the D-18 is a great looking guitar with beautiful wood grain and tone combined with expert finishing from the Martin factory. Musicians used to recording with acoustic guitars will also appreciate just how easy it is to mix due to it's projection and clarity of sound. Try one out for yourself.

!±8± The Martin Bass Guitar Pros and Cons

The Martin bass guitar is famous for its steel string guitars and have made several models of electric guitars. The company has withstood all the competition with constant innovation and reinventing all there models over the years. The management of the company has remained with the family and it is their sheer dedication to the craft and art of making guitars that has helped the company overcome all difficulties and emerge as a leading manufacturer of world class guitars.

There were some special characteristics of the martin bass guitar and in the earlier days these included an adjustable neck. A screw used to be mounted on the back of the heel of the neck and this was extended right up to the neck block. Due to this the neck could be moved up and down. By inserting a clock key in the heel the neck could be adjusted. This made playing the simple guitar a bit complicated and slowly this design was phased out.

One of the major innovations of Martin guitars is the X bracing system that was part of the guitar top design. There are also special models and limited editions that are made periodically to commemorate a special occasion.

Martin guitars have a unique labeling system where an initial letter and the number of zeroes signify the body size and type. The higher the number is the higher will be its design detail. There are many famous models of the Martin bass guitar and these include the 000-1, 000-15, 000-28EC, 000-28ECB, 000-18, D1, D18, D28, HD-28, HD-35, D-45, J-40, OM-28, OM-42PS, 16 series, 15 series, Road series, Little Martin, Backpacker and EB 18 to name just a few.
